NEW HALL DESSERT DISH

K.100.1083 New Hall bone china dessert dish [pattern # 2679], with number and title inscribed in red on the back, and with hand-painted center design of  "Dr. Syntax Making his Will" (copied from the engraved aquatint plate- an impression of which is included with the dish itself- taken from  Thomas Rowlandson's "The Third Tour of Dr. Syntax in Search of a Wife").  (London: Rudolph Ackermann, 1820-21).  Reference:  London-World City 1800-40, ed. celina Fox (Yale University Press, 1992) exh. cat., p. 341, No. 194, illustrated (identical dish from the same service now in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London).   (9.25"  H  x 7.5" W) England, C.1830.
