OVAL ORMOLU FIRESCREEN

Superb Louis XVI Style ormolu ovoid form firescreen.  The top of the frame has acanthus leaves and bellflower swags.  The entire border is oak leaves and acorns held in place by acanthus leaves.  The legs are acanthus leaves with perles down the center resting on four toed lions paws.  The fine mesh center panel has a recurring Louis XVI motif of a large silk bow holding a musical trophy panel of instruments and sheets of music.  This is anchored at the base by two tassels.  All of these motifs continually refer to neo-classicism that was much a part of the Louis XVI style.  The casting, chasing  and gilding are really well done and remain in fine condition.
