PAPIER MÂCHÉ LETTER HOLDER

 This large papier mâché letter holder is painted with Japanese figures engaged in daily activities.  Made during the nineteenth century these were used in almost every home to hold envelopes or sort correspondance.  There are two holes in the upper corners so that it could be hung as a wall pocket.

Origin:  England

Year:  third qtr. 19th c.
